U.S. researchers estimate that an 18 percent tax on pizza and soda can push down U.S. adults’ calorie intake enough to lower their average weight by 5 pounds per year.
The researchers, writing in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine, suggested taxing could be used as a weapon in the fight against obesity. Two-thirds of American are overweight or obese, according to the article.
I want to hear your thoughts. Do you think tax on soda and fatty foods, like pizza actually make Americans healthier?
Happy Monday! Hope you all had a great weekend (despite the downpour on Saturday)! Did you do anything exciting this weekend?
I just ran across a study that caught my eye. Research shows that many more Americans nap than previously thought.
I’m not one of them! Every once and a while I’ll take a power nap, but not often. I don’t have time to nap! Between working, running errands and playing a wedding… there’s just no time!!
Apparently sleeping for 20-30 minutes can improve your mood!! Are you one of the many Americans who nap regularly?? If so, when? I need some pointers!
I’m sure by now you’ve all heard about the Swine Flu outbreak. There’s no reported cases in Louisiana but there are some in Texas. However, more than 40 cases have been reported across the United States. 149 people have died in Mexico from the virus.
Doctors say symptoms include headaches, fever, muscle aches, congestion, nausea, vomiting… just like seasonal flu. Officials say washing your hands regularly, keeping your distance from people who are sick or coughing and other basic things can keep you safe.
Are you worried? Are you taking any extra precautions? How concerned are you this may become bigger?
Have you guys heard about the coach in Kentucky charged with reckless homicide in the death of one of his players? The coach apparently made the player run sprints in 94 degree heat. The 15 year old player collapsed and died three days later after becoming fatally overheated.
Do you think this is standard practice or is the coach overstepping his boundaries?

It really wasn’t the way I wanted to start my day, but it’s just part of the job. Shortly after getting to work this morning I head out to a fire at The Shreveport Little Theatre. On our way to the scene we see the smoke from the fire miles away. When we get there we see smoke and flames pouring out of the windows. About 50 firefighters tried to battle the blaze, but it was too late. Fortunately no one was hurt. Talking to the people who called this place home was upsetting. As I listened to them talk about the history of the building I was amazed. One member said “It’s just the loss of the history. If a building can be history this is. There have been so many generations that have come through this theatre.”
