Woman Arrested for Drunk Breast-Feeding

Is it safe to have a glass of wine while breastfeeding? How about two glasses??

I just read an article about a 26 year old mother who pleaded guilty to child neglect for breast feeding while intoxicated. I promise I’m not making this stuff up!

Apparently neighbors called the police when they saw the mother slurring her speech and breast feeding her six-week old baby.

Thoughts?? Where do you draw the line??

  1. As a mother of two very precious little girls, I have to say that drinking around them is completely unacceptable. If my husband and I decide to go out and have a drink, we are absolutely sure to have a sitter, or the children go stay at their grandparents house. I would not feel comfortable, as a mother, to take care of a child even a little tipsy. But, I see that not everyone sees it my way. And thats fine too :D

  2. If you’re drunk and nursing, you can pass that alcohol on to the child through the breast milk. Since the baby was so young and it’s liver isn’t developed, it can’t process the alcohol well and can even damage the liver.

One or two drinks is one thing, but to be so trashed that her speech was slurred? Definitely the charges sound reasonable and warranted.
